Steminism
About us

We are feminists in STEM.

And not shy to say so!

We have heard many definitions of feminism and are aware how polarizing that word can be for many people. We want to make it clear that to us, feminism is a fight against the patriarchy, which is something that affects all of us, not just uterus-owning human beings. But we see the importance of using the word feminism because we are engaging in that specific discussion of women being disproportionately marginalized by patriarchy. We want to be represented equally in all advances of science and technology, which is why we are all about seeing more women in STEM.

Intersectionality

We know privilege is not black and white. Various types of privilege affects how various humans are affected by the patriarchy. We stand for LGBTQIA+ related issues as well as men affected by the way our society operates. Some of us have felt overlapping discriminations that come with our gender, our sex, the colour of our skin, our neurodivergence, our societal expectations and even our basic choices in clothing.
It's intersectional feminism or nothing!

Focus on STEM.

Did you know that the most basic of ergonomic standards set for employees in a workplace or users of a machine are based disproportionately on the needs of men's bodies? Whether it is seatbelt design, standardized air conditioning temperatures, medicinal effects, research budgets, the height of equipment, or the design of many products, the physiological needs of women are often overlooked. We want to see more female engineers, doctors, mathematicians, coders and scientists so we are not left behind in the process of technological advances. We'd love to be less likely to die in a car accident!
